New Zealand

Just landed in New Zealand. Enjoyed the flight. It's about 12 hours from Los Angeles. Take off, get set and chat for a bit, pop an ambien, wake up and watch a flick and just when you are about to prepare for the long flight ahead by taking out your work-- shucks, time to land. I could do that all day.

Anyway, New Zealand is a country of just over 4 million people, over a third of who live here-- in Auckland. It's a beautiful, unspoiled and ambitious country. I have been asked to join a commission of seven from North America, organized by the NZ government, to work with companies here to bring them to America and beyond. The individuals involved are an illustrious group and I suspect, like at Harvard, I'll get just as much from the company as from the actual agenda. We start tonight.

OPB

Primary Human Occupation: trying to understand Other People's Brains (OPB).

I believe that most of us go through life preoccupied with trying to understand OPB. Every once in a while, you achieve the goal: self-delusion that you actually understand someone else. But even those times will be short-lived. In general, you will learn again (and again) that your mistake was to put too much of yourself into the picture. And then you will be disappointed at best, shocked at worse.

How could this person do, say such a thing? Because they are not like you, stupid-- no one is.

Purkey Says

"Love like you have never been hurt.
Dance like nobody's watching
And sing like nobody's listening!"
